Ingredients
Crust:
2 cups flour
½ teaspoon salt
1 Tbls sugar
2/3 cup + a couple Tbls of lard
2-3 Tbls ice cold water
Filling:
2 ½ cup dark sweet cherries
2 cup blackberries
1 ¼ cup sugar
½ teaspoon almond extract
2 ½ Tbls cornstarch
Directions
Crust:
For the crust: sift flour, sugar, and salt in bowl then incorporate lard with knives or pastry blender until pea sized. Then add ice water and mix with hands until formable, chill and let rest for half an hour before use.
Filling:
For the filling: mix dark sweet cherries, blackberries, and sugar together until berries are thoroughly covered. Add in extract and with the cornstarch mix separately with some of the reserved berry juice until all lumps are out, and pour into filling mixture. Mix extract and the cornstarch mixture well into the fruit and sugar mix and pour into crust. Then cover as desired with the top crust and bake at 350 for 1 ½ hours or until golden brown.
