Since 1995, the American Pie Council® hosts the annual National Pie Championships® where amateur, professional and commercial pie bakers can compete in their categories for the best pies in the country.
The APC judging team has reviewed tens of 1000’s of pies and the competition continues to grow.
The event features hundreds of sweet and savory pies in more than 30 flavor categories. Additionally, special categories showcase artisan pies, while others speak to today’s health considerations with no-sugar added and gluten-free categories.
Pies are evaluated several different ways:
- First impressions/ pre slice score
- Flavor
- Mouthfeel; consistency, crust, aftertaste
- Overall appeal
- Creativity (only for best new product)
2024 Winners
And the winners are in! We are excited to share the blue ribbon winners of the 2024 APC National Pie Championships that took place April 2024 in Orlando. Close to 600 pies were entered in numerous flavor categories, including four new sponsored flavors: Florida Beef Council, Karo Syrup, Mango Board and USA Pears.
More than 150 blue ribbons were awarded among these commercial and independent winners.

The APC has created a standard of quality in pie making on all levels. We have a well-established record in the pie judging field for commercial, professional and amateur bakers alike. In past years, the APC judging team has reviewed almost 1000 pies each year and the competition continues to grow.

Become a Judge
Because so many incredible pies require many qualified judges, we are able to offer a limited number of positions
to our pie-loving fans. Credentialed and certified judges (including those from other food verticals),
chefs, cooking instructors and culinary students also are ideal to apply.
To be a pie judge, you need to be:
- Able to spend most of the day – through early afternoon.
- Tech-savvy. Judging is done in real time, on an app accessible on your phone or tablet.
